WHITE IRON:
White Iron is an iron with alloy additions that gives 400 to 500 BHN hardness. White iron is mainly used in
abrasive applications, it also has limited machinability. Somerset Foundries produces white iron castings
up to 1,300 lb.
ALLOYED IRON:
Alloyed Iron is a gray iron with an alloy addition for heat treating purposes. This iron runs a Brinell
Hardness of 450. Somerset Foundries produces alloyed iron castings up to 18,000 pounds.

Somerset Foundries produces a wide variety of melting kettles for the zinc and die casting industries. The pots are
cast with a special alloyed gray iron. Pots are supplied with
tapped lift holes for use in installation.
